FILM STILL OF BYRON COLEY

BYRON COLEY Music Writer

We would have wound up in Byron’s Ecstatic Yod space no matter what unusual musician had been our focus. The massive number of records that cocoon the big warehouse loft he uses to house his record label, shop and office is a thing to behold, and he’s had dealings with a large number of the folks whose work he is surrounded by. Byron is well reputed for his writing in Forced Exposure, Spin, The Wire and many smaller and tantalizing publications. He’s written about Michael on several occasions, more recently following a series of conversations they had during a visit in Brooklyn. He and Snock once collaborated on a 7 inch vinyl, National Weed Growers Association, and Byron wrote the forward to Words to the Songs of Michael Hurley. His enthusiasm for indie music and unusual musical lore are matched only by his exuberance in writing and talking about that world. We were present for a number of stories and a slice of life in his astounding Florence, Massachusetts loft.
